Peony Garden at Ueno

Now it is the best season for the winter peonies at Ueno Tosyogu Shrine.  The five storied pagoda above originally belonged to the shrine, but now to the Ueno zoo.  Around Ueno a lot of people gathered to watch the beautiful  peonies and the panda baby,  xiang-xiang.  I just enjoyed peonies.

I visited “Sekiguchi Basyo An”, a hermitage where the Haiku poet “Basyo” lived in the early Edo period, working as a civil engineer for the water system.

It’s great fun to stroll around, especially looking back over the past and the people.

Sumo is a traditional Japanese sport.  On the ring you can also enjoy Japanese culture including such things to purify themselves as well as sumo itself.
